What this means

Your answers show that most of the big topics a marriage depends on are either unknowns or open disagreements between you right now. Money, children, families, faith, how you fight and how you recover: on many of them you picked "we haven't talked about it", or "we've talked and we want different things".

This is the highest-gap result on this test, and it is worth reading slowly. It is not a judgment of your love, and it does not mean the relationship is doomed. It means the decisions a marriage makes harder to undo are, for now, being left to chance. That is common in relationships that moved fast, in couples who avoid conflict, and when a wedding feels like the natural next step and nobody wants to slow it down.

Two very different versions of this result

The same score can come from two places, and they call for different next steps.

Mostly unknowns. If most of your answers were some version of "we haven't talked about it", you do not know yet whether you are compatible. You might agree on nearly everything. The work is simple to describe and uncomfortable to do: have the conversations, one topic at a time, before plans move further.

Mostly disagreements. If many of your answers were the last option, you have talked, and you are pulling in different directions on things that cannot be split down the middle, or your fights already go badly. That is harder. It calls for an honest look at whether you can build one life out of two plans, ideally with outside help.

Most people are a mix. Count which kind you have more of.

Where to start

Do not try to cover everything in one night. Start with the questions that would be hardest to change after a wedding, and take one per conversation:

  • Do we both want children? If so, roughly when, and how many?
  • What do we each earn, owe and spend? Can we look at the real numbers?
  • Where will we live, and whose career leads if one of us gets an offer somewhere else?
  • What role will faith play in our home?
  • How involved will our families be, and what happens when one of them oversteps?
  • What counts as crossing a line with someone else: exes, flirting, private messages?
  • When we fight, what do we each do, and what would we rather do instead?

If talking about any of these tends to end in a standoff, the questions to ask your partner include lighter sets that rebuild the habit of asking. If you want a broader picture of how you connect and fight day to day, the compatibility test for couples looks at that.

Give yourselves time

If a wedding date is close, it is fair to ask for more time. "I love you and I want this to work, so I want us to talk through the big things before we commit" is not a rejection. It is one of the most serious things you can say about a marriage. If your partner refuses to discuss these topics at all, that refusal is an answer worth paying attention to.

If a disagreement has ever left you afraid of your partner, that is not a compatibility question but a safety one, and the National Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-799-7233) is confidential and open around the clock.

What premarital counseling is

Premarital counseling is a short set of sessions with a counselor, a therapist or a trained member of the clergy. You usually each complete a questionnaire alone, then go through the areas where your answers differ and practice the skills for talking about them. For a result like this, a neutral third person can help with conversations that have stalled at home, and can help you see whether your gaps are blanks you can fill or directions that do not meet.

What to do next

Choose one topic from the list and have that conversation this week. If you want to work out what you want before you talk to your partner, Lovon is an AI relationship coach you talk to by voice. It is support, not therapy, and it can help you get clear before you speak.

This quiz is for self-reflection and educational purposes. It is not a diagnosis, clinical instrument, or replacement for professional care. If any of this raises concerns, consider talking to a licensed therapist. How we build these quizzes.

From the wiki

The fourteen questions on this test are written by Lovon around the topics that premarital education commonly covers: money, children, household work, families, faith and values, conflict and repair, affection and sex, career and location, stress and trust. This is not PREPARE/ENRICH, FOCCUS, SYMBIS or any other published premarital inventory, and it does not reproduce their items or scoring.

There are no clinical norms behind the results. They describe the pattern of your own answers, not where you sit against other couples, and nothing here is a diagnosis or a prediction about whether a marriage will last.

Your answers describe one partner's view. They cannot tell you what your partner thinks, which is why taking the test separately and comparing is worth the extra four minutes.
