Before you start

This will my ex come back quiz starts with an honest admission: no quiz can read your ex's mind, and this one does not pretend to. What it can do is look at the signals you can actually observe, such as how the breakup happened, who reaches out, what your ex says and what they do, and tell you plainly how strong those signals are. It has fourteen questions, takes about three minutes, and you do not need an account or an email to take it.

1

Why most "chances" quizzes get this wrong

Many ex-back quizzes hand out a percentage and a sales pitch. Almost everyone is told there is hope, and that the right program or the right text will bring their ex back. That is not how it works. Whether someone returns depends on what they feel and what has changed for them, and you cannot engineer either. This quiz will not give you a percentage, will not sell you a script to make your ex come back, and will tell you when the signals are weak.

2

What this quiz scores

The questions fall into six groups. How it ended: who decided, how sure they sounded, the main reason, and whether the breakup itself was calm or cruel. Time: how long it has been. Contact: how often you are in touch and who starts it. Words and actions: what they have said about the two of you, whether they actually make time to see you, and whether their attention is steady or hot and cold. The core problem: whether the thing that broke you up has really changed, and whether they own their part in it. And where they are now: whether they are with someone new, and how they treat you when you cross paths.

No single signal decides anything. A breakup that happened two weeks ago tells you little on its own, and a new partner does not always last. What matters is the pattern, and above all whether their words and their actions point the same way.

3

Signals that mean less than they feel like

Some of the most searched signs your ex wants you back are the weakest ones. Watching your stories, liking an old photo, a "hey" at 1 a.m., keeping your hoodie, getting jealous when you date, or wanting to hook up are all real, but they can come from boredom, loneliness, habit or curiosity as easily as from wanting to try again. The stronger signals are less exciting and more consistent: reaching out first in daylight, making plans and keeping them, talking honestly about what went wrong, and changing the thing that ended it. This quiz gives more weight to the second kind.

4

Do exes actually get back together?

Often, yes. Getting back together is a common part of dating, especially for younger adults. In a study of young adults in Toledo, Ohio, published in the Journal of Adolescent Research in 2013, Sarah Halpern-Meekin and colleagues found that nearly half had broken up and reunited with their current or most recent partner.

Getting back together is not the same as staying happily together, though. René Dailey, who studies on-again/off-again relationships, found with colleagues that partners who cycle report less satisfaction and more uncertainty than partners who never split, and that the cycling seems to come from the dynamic between the two people rather than from either person's personality. That is why this quiz asks whether the problem has changed: a second try that repeats the first relationship tends to end the same way.

5

The question this quiz cannot answer for you

Every result also asks you something back: do you actually want them back, and what would need to be different this time? After a breakup, it is easy to want the pain to stop and mistake that for wanting the person. If you are not sure which it is, the do I miss my ex or am I just lonely quiz helps you tell them apart.

6

How this differs from nearby quizzes

This quiz looks outward, at your ex's signals. If they pulled away whenever things got close, the is my ex avoidant quiz looks at that pattern on its own. The am I over my ex quiz looks inward, at how far you have come in moving on, and the how long to get over a breakup calculator gives a rough range for when it stops hurting. The should I text my ex quiz is for the moment your thumb is over the send button. And if you have already decided you want to try again, the honest guide to getting your ex back helps you plan a first message that asks for nothing.

7

How to read your result

There are four results: the door looks open, mixed signals, the door is mostly closed, and closed for now. Each one explains what the pattern means, what it cannot promise and what to do next, including what to say if your ex reaches out and how to look after yourself if they do not. None of them promises an outcome or suggests a tactic to make someone come back.

Whatever your result, a period of space usually helps. The no contact rule guide explains how to use it for your own recovery rather than as a trick, and the guide to getting over a breakup covers what helps if the door stays closed.

Answer for how things are now, not how you hope they are or how they were on the best day. If an answer falls between two options, pick the less hopeful one. It will give you a more useful result.

8

When this is not the right question

If you were afraid of your ex, or they controlled, threatened or hurt you, the question is not whether they will come back but how to stay safe. Talk to someone you trust, or to a domestic violence advocate, before any contact.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my ex likely to come back?

Nobody can tell you that for certain, including this quiz. What you can judge is the pattern of signals. An ex who reaches out first, talks warmly, makes and keeps plans, and has dealt with the reason you split is more likely to be open to trying again than one who rarely replies, has a new partner, or still puts all the blame on you. If the signals are weak, waiting usually costs you more than it gives.

Do exes get back together?

Often. In a 2013 study of young adults in Toledo, Ohio, Sarah Halpern-Meekin and colleagues found that nearly half had broken up and gotten back together with their current or most recent partner. Getting back together does not guarantee a better relationship, though. Research by René Dailey and colleagues has found that couples who break up and reunite report less satisfaction and more uncertainty, so the question that matters is whether the reason for the breakup has really changed.

How do I know if I want to get back with my ex?

Picture them saying yes tomorrow and notice your first reaction: relief and excitement, or worry that the same fights will start again. Then name what would need to be different, in specific terms, and ask whether that change has actually happened. If what you mostly want is for the pain to stop or not to be alone, that need is real, but it may not be about this person.

What are the real signs your ex wants you back?

The stronger signs are consistent and take effort: they reach out first, often in daylight, make plans and keep them, talk honestly about what went wrong, and own their part in it. Weaker signs include viewing your stories, liking old posts, late-night messages, jealousy or wanting to hook up. Those can mean interest, but they can just as easily come from boredom, loneliness or habit.

Can this quiz tell me if my ex still loves me?

No. Feelings are not visible from the outside, and someone can still love you and not want the relationship back. This quiz reads what your ex does and says, which is what you can actually see. If you need to know what they feel, the only reliable way is to ask them directly and accept the answer.

Should I go no contact to get my ex back?

No contact works best as something you do for yourself, not as a tactic. A stretch without contact lets your feelings settle and shows you what you want when you are not waiting for a reply. If your ex reaches out during that time, that tells you something. But going silent only to make someone miss you is a game, and games are a weak start for a second try.

How long does it take for an ex to come back?

There is no reliable timeline. Rules about a set number of days come from breakup advice, not research. Some people reconnect within weeks, some after years, and many never do. Instead of counting days, watch whether the signals are getting stronger or weaker over time, and pick a date to check in with yourself so the waiting does not become open-ended.

Is what I answer here private?

You do not need an account or an email address to take the quiz. Your answers are used to work out your result and are not saved to a profile or shown to anyone. Nobody, including your ex, is notified that you took it.
