1

How to listen

Six minutes, somewhere quiet, sitting or lying down. Headphones help. At one point Anna suggests resting a hand on your chest; if that feels awkward, skip it, the rest works the same. There is nothing to get right and no experience needed.

2

What happens in the six minutes

After a few slow breaths, Anna asks you to think of a small mistake from this week and listen to the voice that comes up about it. For most people it is harsher than anything they would say to someone they love. Then you try the other version, what you would tell a friend who made the same mistake.

With a hand on your heart, you try three sentences: "I'm doing the best I can. I'm allowed to make mistakes. I don't have to earn being cared for." Near the end, Anna asks you to remember one thing you did recently that you are quietly proud of. It does not have to be impressive; getting out of bed on a hard day counts. It closes with three last breaths.

3

What self-love actually is

Self-love is not feeling great about yourself all the time. It is how you treat yourself on the days you do not. That is the difference between self-esteem, which goes up and down with how things are going, and self-compassion, which is the habit of being on your own side when they are going badly.

The inner critic usually thinks it is helping. It believes that if it stops being harsh, you will stop trying. In practice, people who speak to themselves kindly after a mistake tend to recover faster and try again sooner, because they are not also recovering from the attack.

4

When to use it

After a mistake you keep replaying. After a breakup, when the story becomes what is wrong with you. Before something that makes you feel small. On an ordinary evening, as practice, so the kinder voice is easier to find when you need it.

If the hurt is mostly about someone leaving, start with the breakup meditation and come back to this one after.

5

What this is not

One meditation does not rewrite years of talking to yourself a certain way. It gives you a few minutes of hearing the other voice. If you want to see where you are starting from, the inner critic test and the self-esteem check-in are good places to begin, and how to practice self-compassion when you hate yourself covers what to do on the days this feels impossible.

This meditation is for relaxation and self-reflection. It is not therapy or medical advice. Anna is Lovon's AI relationship coach, and if the harsh voice gets loud again, you can talk it through with her by voice in the Lovon app, any hour.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a self-love meditation?

A short guided meditation that helps you notice how you speak to yourself and practise a kinder version. This one uses slow breathing, the words you would give a friend, a hand on your heart, and remembering something you are proud of.

Is self-love the same as self-esteem?

Not quite. Self-esteem is how you rate yourself, and it rises and falls with how things are going. Self-love, or self-compassion, is how you treat yourself, especially when things go badly. This meditation works on the second one.

What if saying kind things to myself feels fake?

That is very common, especially at first. You do not have to believe the words yet. Saying them is practice, the same way you would practise any new habit. Many people find it feels less strange by the third or fourth listen.

How often should I listen?

Once a day for a week is a good start. It is six minutes, so it fits before sleep or on a break. After that, use it whenever the harsh voice gets loud.

Who is the voice?
