Frequently Asked Questions
Is this the Light Triad Scale?
No. The Light Triad Scale is a specific published research instrument with its own items, scoring and norms, and this is not it. The twelve items here are written by Lovon around the same construct, which is the three part structure of treating people as ends, valuing dignity, and expecting good from people. We do not reproduce the original wording. Anywhere you see a site offering the original items as a free quiz, treat its scoring and its norms with caution.
Why score three parts instead of one number?
Because they rarely sit at the same height. The first part is whether you ask straight or steer. The second is whether your attention depends on what someone can do for you. The third is the reading you give an ambiguous act before you have any information. Someone can be scrupulously honest and still assume most people are out for themselves. A single number hides which part is doing the work, and the next step is different for each.
Is a low score here the same as a high dark triad score?
No, and this is the most common misreading. The two sets were built as related but separate measurements rather than opposite ends of one ruler. A person can be guarded and calculating and still refuse to use anyone. A person can sincerely believe in people's goodness and manipulate them anyway. A dark triad test asks directly about manipulation, entitlement and coldness in conflict. This one asks what you do when there is nothing to gain.
Can you have too much faith in people?
Faith in humanity works well as a starting position and badly as a verdict. What costs people is not the first generous reading of someone's behaviour, which is usually correct and always cheap. It is the reluctance to let the second and third occurrence count. Someone cancels, explains, and the explanation is accepted again. The correction is not suspicion. It is deciding in advance what a repeat means, so evidence can arrive without your good faith having to end.
Does a high score mean I am a bad person?
No. The scale describes defaults, and defaults are learned. Guardedness usually comes from somewhere guardedness was correct. Steering usually comes from a history where asking straight went badly. Neither is a verdict on your character, and both move when conditions move. What the number can tell you is which of the three parts is currently running on conditions, so whatever you try next is aimed at the right one.
Is what I answer here private?
You do not need an account and you are not asked for an email address. Your answers are used to calculate the result on this page. They are not saved to a profile, emailed to you, or shown to anyone else. Close the tab and the result is gone from your screen. If you want to compare later, the only reliable way is to take it again and read the questions rather than the number.
