AI Mental Health Coach

This is a free AI mental health coach for ordinary hard stretches: stress, low days, worry that will not switch off, a routine that has slipped. It helps you put words to what is going on and choose one or two small steps, and it says plainly when something is worth taking to a doctor or therapist. It is an AI, not a person and not a licensed professional, and there is no sign-up.

I am an AI mental health coach, not a person and not a licensed professional. Tell me what has been going on and for how long: stress, low days, worry that will not switch off, sleep slipping. I will help you put words to it and find one or two small steps, and I will say so if it sounds like something to take to a doctor or therapist.

An AI, not a person and not a licensed professional. Coaching and support, not diagnosis or treatment.

This is support, not therapy, and it is not a diagnosis. If you are in immediate danger call 911. If you are having thoughts of harming yourself, call or text 988 in the US for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. If you are afraid of a partner, the National Domestic Violence Hotline is 1-800-799-7233, or text START to 88788.

A mental health coach helps with the everyday side of how you are doing: stress, sleep, routine, the low days and the worry. Most results for the term explain the job or how to train for it. This page is a chat that does a small part of that work with you.

It is an AI, not a person and not a licensed professional. It offers coaching and emotional support. It does not diagnose, it is not treatment, and it does not replace a doctor or therapist. It knows only what you type here. There is no account, and the conversation disappears from this page when you close the tab.

1

What the chat does

It starts by asking what has been going on and for how long, because a hard week and a hard two months are different things.

Then it says back what it heard. It helps you name the feeling, such as worry, dread, flatness or irritability, without putting a label or a diagnosis on you. It looks at what has changed: sleep, appetite, energy, what you have stopped doing.

After that come two or three small steps for today or this week. Small means a ten-minute walk, one message to a friend, or the first piece of one task. If what you describe has gone on most days for two weeks or more, or is affecting work or home, it says that this is worth taking to a doctor or therapist. Then it asks one question.

2

Situations people bring to it

Everyday stress that has piled up: work, money worries, caring for someone, all at once. It helps you separate what needs you this week from what can wait.

Low-mood days. Not every day, but more than usual. It asks what the low days have in common.

Worry loops. The same thought at 3 AM, every night. If your body is racing before your mind has caught up, the 5-4-3-2-1 grounding exercise or box breathing can come first.

Feeling flat, or overwhelmed. Going through the day without feeling much, or feeling everything at once. The distress tolerance test looks at how long you can stay with a hard feeling, and the coping style test at what you tend to do with it.

Sleep and routine slipping, each part making the others worse. It picks one thread to pull, not five.

Wanting to understand a feeling. Why a small thing set you off, or why you feel lonely with people around. The loneliness test separates three kinds of loneliness.

Getting ready to talk to a doctor or therapist. What has changed, since when, and what you want help with, written down so the appointment does not end before you say it.

If you only want to be heard, vent to an AI listens and does nothing else.

3

What it will not do

It will not diagnose you or tell you that you have anxiety, depression or anything else. Only a licensed professional can assess that. It gives no advice about medication; starting, stopping or changing a dose is for your prescriber. It does not provide therapy or treatment, and it does not promise you will feel better by a certain date.

It also does not know you, it will not remember this conversation, and it can be wrong. If an answer does not fit, say so.

When to see a professional

Talk to a doctor or a licensed therapist if:

  • you have felt low, empty, anxious or on edge most days for two weeks or more
  • you are not coping at work, at school or at home
  • your sleep, appetite or energy have changed a lot and are not coming back
  • you are using alcohol or drugs to get through the day
  • something painful that happened keeps coming back, in memories or nightmares

If you are not sure where to start, a primary care doctor is a reasonable first stop.

If you are having any thoughts of hurting yourself or of not wanting to be alive, call or text 988 now, at any hour, in the US. If you are in danger right now, call 911. If someone is hurting or scaring you, the National Domestic Violence Hotline is 1-800-799-7233, or text START to 88788.

This chat, like the Lovon app, is for adults 18 and over.

Text here, voice in the app

This page is a text chat of about ten messages. The Lovon app takes the same approach by voice, which some people find easier than typing on a hard day. It is an AI there too, not a person and not a licensed professional, and it is not for emergencies. If you want to keep going, get the Lovon app.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a mental health coach?

A mental health coach supports everyday wellbeing: stress, routines, habits, and getting through ordinary hard stretches. In the US, mental health coaching is not a licensed profession, and a coach does not diagnose or treat mental health conditions. That is the difference from a therapist, psychologist or psychiatrist. This page offers a small piece of coaching from an AI: putting words to what is going on and choosing a next step.

Is this AI mental health coach free?

Yes. The chat on this page is free to use, with no account, email or sign-up. A session runs about ten messages. If you would rather talk out loud, or keep going past that, the Lovon app takes the same approach by voice. Neither is a substitute for a doctor or therapist.

Is it a real person or a therapist?

No to both. It is an AI, not a person and not a licensed professional. It does not provide therapy, it does not diagnose, and it is not treatment. It can listen, help you name what is going on and suggest small steps. If you need therapy, a licensed therapist is the right person, and this chat can help you prepare for that first conversation.

Do I need a mental health coach or a therapist?

A coach can help with everyday stress, routines and getting unstuck while you are generally coping. A licensed therapist is the better fit when symptoms are there most days for two weeks or more, when you are not coping at work or at home, when something painful from the past keeps coming back, or when you are thinking about hurting yourself. If you are not sure, start with a primary care doctor. Some people use both.

Can AI give emotional support?

Some. An AI can listen without getting tired, say back what you said so you feel heard, and help you think through a next step at an hour when nobody else is awake. It cannot see or hear how you are, follow how you are doing over months, or act if you are in danger. It works best alongside people, not instead of them. If you notice you have stopped talking to anyone else, that is worth paying attention to.

When should I see a doctor instead of using a chat?

When low mood, worry or numbness has been there most days for two weeks or more, when you are not coping at work or at home, when your sleep, appetite or energy have changed a lot, or when you are using alcohol or drugs to get by. If you have any thoughts of hurting yourself or of not wanting to be alive, call or text 988 in the US now, and call 911 if you are in danger.

What happens to what I type here?

You do not need an account, email or sign-up. What you type goes to an AI so it can write the reply. On this site the conversation is not saved to an account, and it disappears from this page when you close the tab, so copy anything you want to keep. You can leave out names and any details that identify someone. The coaching works the same without them.
