Never Have I Ever is one of the simplest party games there is. Someone reads a statement that starts with never have I ever, and everyone who has done the thing owns up. Nobody knows who invented it. It has been passed around sleepovers, campfires, school trips and long car rides for generations, and it works because the cards are only an excuse: the real game is the story behind each finger that goes down. The name also belongs to a Netflix comedy series. This page is about the game.

1

How to play Never Have I Ever

Everyone holds up ten fingers. One person reads a card out loud, for example never have I ever pushed a door that clearly said pull. Anyone who has done it puts one finger down and, if the table asks nicely, explains. Then the next person reads the next card. In the classic rules, the first player with no fingers left is out, and the last one with fingers up is crowned the most innocent at the table. Plenty of groups skip the winner entirely and just play until they run out of cards or laughs.

The game above does the reading and the counting for you. Pick a deck, then pick how to play. Just play shows one card at a time, so a group can pass a phone around and count on their own hands. Keep score asks for two to eight names: on each card, everyone who has done it taps their name, the game puts a finger down for them, and at the end of the round everyone gets a title. Solo is for playing on your own: tap I have or Never, and after fifteen cards you get a verdict and your boldest answer. On a computer the keyboard works too.

2

Ways to play

The ten fingers rule is the original scoreboard, but it is not the only one. Some groups count points instead of fingers, so nobody is ever out. Some go round the circle and each player writes their own card, which tells you a lot about what they secretly wanted to confess. A fun twist is the reverse round: the reader names something they have never done but suspect everyone else has, and they lose a finger if they are right. You can also play in teams, or add a rule that every finger down earns a thirty-second story.

3

Which deck to pick

The Couples deck is for two people who think they already know each other, full of small confessions like watching ahead on a show you promised to watch together. Friends is built for groups: group chats, sleepovers and secrets kept or spilled. Dating covers crushes, first dates and texts rehearsed for an hour. Deep is slower and better late at night, with cards about forgiveness, family and the things people rarely say out loud. Funny is pure chaos, from waving back at a stranger to arguing with a self-checkout machine. Mix shuffles all five together. Every card is written to be safe for teens and families, so you can play it anywhere.

4

Tips for couples

Never Have I Ever is a sneaky way to learn about a partner, because nobody feels interviewed. Keep it light and let the stories come on their own. If a card brings up an ex or an old habit, treat the answer as something new you learned, not a confession to judge. The best rounds are the ones where you both end up laughing at something you never knew. For more of that, try Truth or Dare for couples, or find out how well you really know each other with the How Well Do You Know Your Partner quiz.

5

Tips for friends and groups

Read the card exactly as written, then pause. The pause is where the good stories come out. Agree before you start that anyone can pass on a card without explaining, and that what is said at the table stays there. Nobody should feel cornered, and a game that embarrasses someone stops being fun for everyone. Rotate the reader so the quieter friends get to pick cards too. When a round ends, compare titles: the Adventurer, the Angel and the Plot Twist always start a fresh debate. For another group game on one phone, try Who Is the Red Flag?, or switch to Would You Rather for quick choices and a profile at the end.

6

When a card hits a nerve

Some cards are only funny. Others land somewhere real: a friendship you ended, a person you still miss, a time you stayed quiet when you wanted to speak up. That is normal, and it is part of why the game has lasted so long. If a card stays with you after the game is over, it can help to talk it through instead of carrying it around. Lovon is an AI relationship coach you speak to by voice, at any hour, and it is a calm place to think out loud about the person or the moment a card reminded you of.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you play Never Have I Ever?

Everyone holds up ten fingers. One person reads a statement that starts with never have I ever, and anyone who has done it puts a finger down. The last player with fingers up is the most innocent at the table. The game above reads the cards and keeps score for you.

What are good Never Have I Ever questions?

The best ones are specific and a little funny, like never have I ever waved back at someone who was waving at the person behind me. Small, everyday moments get the most fingers down and the best stories. This page has 210 of them in five decks, all printed under the game.

Are these Never Have I Ever questions clean?

Yes. Every card is PG-13: nothing explicit, nothing illegal, nothing a parent would wince at and nothing that makes fun of who someone is. The Couples and Dating decks are flirty in places, while Friends and Funny suit any group.

Can you play Never Have I Ever with two people?

Yes, it works well for couples and best friends. Choose Keep score and type two names. At the end you see how many fingers each of you put down, who got which title and how many cards you answered the same way.

Can I play Never Have I Ever alone?

Yes. Choose Solo, then tap I have or Never on each card. After fifteen cards you get a verdict, from Pure Angel to Living Legend, plus your boldest answer, and you can share it to see how your friends compare.

How many people can play?

Any number can play the classic way, counting on their hands. In Keep score mode the game tracks two to eight players on one phone. For a bigger group, use Just play and let everyone count their own fingers.

What is the ten fingers rule?

It is the classic way to keep score. Everyone starts with ten fingers up and puts one down for each card they have done. A player with no fingers left is out, or in friendlier games simply wins the title of most adventurous.

What if someone does not want to answer a card?

Let them pass. The game only works when everyone feels safe being honest, so agree before you start that anyone can skip a card without explaining. A pass is part of the game, not a confession.
