Two sides thin

What this means
At this range two of the three sides are running low at once and one is carrying the relationship. That is a heavier position than the number suggests, because the remaining side rarely holds indefinitely on its own.
The most common version is commitment doing all the work. The closeness has gone quiet, the pull has gone quiet, and what is left is the decision to stay: shared logistics, shared history, shared plans, and not much else in the room. Relationships can run this way for a long time. The reason to take it seriously is that the person inside it usually knows, and the knowing tends to arrive as flatness rather than as unhappiness.
The other common version is closeness on its own, with neither pull nor a settled future. This one often reads as a very good friendship with a physical history attached, and it can be the most confusing to be inside, because nothing is wrong and nothing is moving either.
Two things are worth separating here. One is what the relationship is currently supplying. The other is what you have already concluded about it. At this level people often stop asking for what is missing, not because they decided it does not matter, but because asking started to feel pointless. That step is what turns a thin phase into a settled arrangement, and it is also the step that is easiest to reverse.
The score is not a recommendation. Two thin sides is a description of the last few months, not a verdict on the relationship or on either of you.
What to do next
Start with the honest question rather than with fixing: has this been the shape for years, or is it where a hard year has left you? Illness, grief, small children, money pressure and long hours flatten two sides at once routinely. If that is the context, the relationship is not the diagnosis.
If it is not the context, the next step is a real conversation rather than a private decision. Deciding alone is common at this range and it is what makes the outcome worse, because the other person is often unaware that anything is being decided.
Keep the first conversation small and specific. One observation, one request, no summary of the last three years. The full version usually turns into a fight and settles nothing.
Couples work is a reasonable step here and not an extreme one. If you want somewhere to get the words in order first, or to work out what you actually want before saying it to anyone, Lovon is available for that.
