What this means

A score in the middle band usually means two of the three parts are running thin at once, and that the pattern has begun to shape the relationship rather than just describe you.

The usual combination is access plus expression. You often do not know what you feel until well after the moment has passed, and by the time it is nameable, saying it seems disproportionate. So it does not get said. What the other person experiences is a partner who is present and agreeable and slightly out of reach, someone they cannot get a straight answer from about how things actually are.

This is where a specific misunderstanding takes hold on both sides. The person scoring in this range reads their own silence as consideration: no reason to burden anyone with something that will pass anyway. The partner reads the same silence as exclusion. Both are describing the same behaviour and neither of them is lying.

The other pattern in this band is a response gap that has hardened. A partner brings something difficult, the discomfort arrives, and the conversation gets steered somewhere easier: toward a solution, toward reassurance, toward a joke, or toward nothing at all. After enough repetitions the partner stops bringing things. The relationship gets quieter and reads as easier, and the availability problem disappears from view precisely because nothing is being asked of it any more.

Worth saying plainly: this is almost never indifference. Nearly everyone in this band cares a great deal and is running something learned, usually in a household where emotion was met with irritation, withdrawal, or something much larger than the feeling itself. That strategy worked once. It is expensive now.

What to do next

Start with timing, not depth. Aim for one small accurate report the same day rather than one big conversation later. The size of the disclosure matters far less than the delay.

Then work the response side with a single sentence: ask whether they want ideas or want you to listen, and then actually do the one they name. That question is small enough to use while the discomfort is still in the room.

Watch for the moment you decide something is not worth mentioning. That decision is where most of the score comes from, and it is the most changeable part of it.

Expect the first attempts to feel worse rather than better. A skill that has been dormant is clumsy at first, and clumsy openness reads as risk. That is the normal shape of the change, not evidence it is failing.

If this pattern predates the current relationship and has been there for years, working on it with a therapist is a reasonable step. Lovon can help you find the words in the meantime.

Your result is a starting point: the conversation with Lovon AI Therapist is where it gets specific.

This is not an original or established instrument, and it does not reproduce one. The items are written by Lovon around the same construct that relationship research describes, and the three-part split is our organisation of it. If you have seen a formal measure of emotional availability, this is not that measure. The bands are ranges for reading your own answers back, not percentiles against a population. There are no clinical norms behind them and nobody has been surveyed to set them. A score of 30 does not mean you are more unavailable than some share of other people. It means enough of your answers landed on the closed side that it is worth looking at which ones. Nothing here is a diagnosis. Emotional availability is not a condition, there is no threshold that makes it one, and a high score is not a verdict on whether you can be in a relationship.
