What this means

You are in the range where the boundary usually exists but does not always survive contact. The shape is familiar: you know where your limit is, you may even say it, and then it moves once the other person is unhappy about it. Nothing here looks dramatic from the outside. The cost shows up later as a low background hum of resentment about things you technically agreed to.

Scores in this range almost always come from one of the three parts running low rather than all three at once. If naming is the weak part, the limit never gets said plainly; it gets hinted at, or softened until it sounds optional, or skipped because the moment did not feel right. If holding is the weak part, saying it is not the problem. Staying with it through someone else's disappointment is, and the retraction usually arrives disguised as being reasonable. If permeability is the weak part, you can name a limit and keep it and still end up carrying the other person's feelings about it for a week.

There is also a version of this range that runs in the opposite direction. Instead of a limit that gets taken back, there is a limit that never gets discussed at all, enforced through distance and silence. It looks firm from outside. It costs the same, in a different currency.

What to do next

Work out which part is thin before doing anything about it. Reread the four statements you answered worst and see whether they cluster under naming, holding or permeability. The right move is different for each.

For naming, the practical unit is one sentence prepared in advance, said early rather than at the point of exhaustion. It does not have to be graceful.

For holding, the useful move is a pause. When you are asked for something, buy time before answering rather than deciding under pressure. Say you will get back to them tomorrow, then answer from a quieter place. Most retracted limits are retracted in the first two minutes of pushback.

For permeability, practise separating the two questions that get merged: what do they need, and what am I actually responsible for. Caring and carrying are not the same act.

Pick one part and give it a month rather than trying to fix all three. If the hard version of this is with family, the family boundary plan on this site walks through one specific limit and the wording for it.

Your result is a starting point: the conversation with Lovon AI Therapist is where it gets specific.

The statements are written by Lovon around the three parts described above. This is not a published research instrument and does not reproduce one. There are no clinical norms behind the five bands either. They are ranges for reading your own answers back to yourself, not percentiles against a population, and moving from one band to the next is not a meaningful clinical event. Nothing here is a diagnosis, and no online test can give you one.

One limit on what any of this can do. If naming a limit with a particular person leads to anger you have to manage, punishment, or consequences you cannot absorb, that is a different situation from a skill you have not learned yet, and it is worth describing to someone you trust or a professional who can look at the specifics with you.

If the pattern is more about needing everyone to be fine with you, the [am I a people pleaser quiz](/quiz/am-i-a-people-pleaser) covers that directly, and [am I codependent](/quiz/am-i-codependent) covers the version where the line disappears inside one relationship. When the hard boundary is with family, the [family boundary plan](/free-tools/app/family-boundary-plan) walks you through one specific limit and the wording to use.
