Solid, with blind spots

What this means
A total in this range usually does not describe someone who is generally shaky with feelings. It describes someone who is good at this most of the time and loses the thread in particular places. The skills exist. They just do not travel everywhere.
The places are usually predictable once you look for them. A certain topic: money, sex, how much time you spend with friends. A certain person, often your partner's mother or your own. A certain state, like the last hour of a long workday or the morning after bad sleep. Outside those zones you notice what you feel, read your partner fairly, and handle it. Inside them one part drops out, and it is not always the same part.
Why the average hides it
Because most of your answers are fine, the total looks reassuring and the lost moments feel like exceptions. They are not random, though. A blind spot usually sits on top of history: an argument that never settled, a family pattern learned early, a fear that lives under the topic. When that history gets touched the situation registers as a threat, and the more careful skills go offline. From the outside it looks like you became a different person for twenty minutes. From the inside it feels entirely justified at the time.
This is also why the same fight keeps coming back. Nothing new is being said in it. The same trigger pulls the same part offline and the conversation runs down the old track.
What to do next
Find the zone before you work on the skill. Look back at the last three times you said something you wished you had not, or went quiet when you meant to speak. Write down what was going on: topic, person, time of day, how tired you were. Most people spot the overlap within a few minutes.
Then name it in advance. If Sunday lunch at your partner's parents is the zone, decide before you arrive what you are likely to feel and what you will do when it shows up. Something as plain as "if I get that tight feeling when your mum brings up the wedding, I am stepping outside for a minute" works better than a resolution to stay calm.
Check which part drops in that zone by rereading your weaker answers. If it is reading, the fix is asking. If it is managing, the fix is a break you have agreed on beforehand. If it is awareness, the fix is slowing down enough to catch the body signal.
If the same argument keeps repeating, Lovon can help you work out what is actually being fought about before the next round.
