Running a deficit after people

What this means
At this level the drain facet is usually the loudest part of the score. Time with people, especially people who are struggling, costs more than you are getting back between times.
The pattern is easy to recognize once it has a name. Sunday at your partner's family costs you Monday evening in silence. Your closest friend's name comes up on the screen and you let it ring, not because you love her less, but because you cannot take in one more worry today. You agree to a full weekend of plans and spend Thursday hoping quietly that someone else cancels first.
A gift that runs at a loss
People at this score often describe what they have as a gift, and part of it is. You pick up what others need, you feel it with them, and people come to you for exactly that. The problem is the accounting. Every heavy conversation goes in at full volume and nothing closes the tap afterwards. So the gift works like a leak, and the more you are valued for it, the faster it drains.
The way it breaks is not dramatic. It is withdrawal. You start rationing contact without ever deciding to. Plans get cancelled late. Replies wait until you have the energy, which is later every week. The people closest to you get the depleted version, because the good hours went to whoever needed you first. A partner in this situation eventually says something like: you have endless time for everyone else's problems. It stings mostly because it is roughly true.
This is less a sensitivity problem than a limits problem. Sensitivity decides how much comes in. Limits decide how long you stay exposed, and whether anything refills you afterwards.
What to do next
Schedule the recovery before the exposure, not after the collapse. If Saturday is a family birthday, block Sunday morning now. Recovery planned in advance is recovery you take. Recovery postponed until you feel bad enough to earn it gets skipped.
Give heavy conversations an end point. Forty minutes fully present, then saying you need to stop, does more for the other person than three hours in which you are half there and quietly resentful by the end.
Replace disappearing with a sentence. Something as ordinary as: I want to hear about this properly, I am out of road tonight, can we talk tomorrow. That keeps the relationship and protects the evening.
And look at who is actually spending your capacity. At this score it is often two or three people who bring everything and ask nothing, while the rest of your life waits. That is a distribution problem, and it usually needs a conversation rather than a coping strategy.
If you want to get the words ready before one of those conversations, Lovon can help you work them out.
