What this means

You land a little below the middle of the scale, which usually describes someone whose sensitivity is situational rather than constant. On a normal week you handle noise, plans and other people's moods without much cost. Then something shifts, a short night, a deadline, a visit from family, and the same office or the same busy kitchen suddenly feels like too much.

That pattern matters because it tells you the lever is conditions, not temperament. People in this range are not built to need unusual amounts of quiet. They have an ordinary threshold that drops when reserves are low, and the drop can be steep enough to surprise them and the people close to them.

Why it can look inconsistent

Partners often find this range confusing. On Friday you were fine at a crowded party. On Tuesday a dinner for four felt exhausting and you snapped about the music. From outside that looks like a mood with no reason. From inside it feels like the world got louder. Both descriptions are fair, and neither is really about the other person.

It is also common in this range for one of the three parts to sit clearly above the others. Often it is overload, the part that reacts most to sleep and stress. Sometimes it is depth: you are easy company in any setting but take a long time to settle after a decision or a disagreement.

What to do next

Keep a rough record for two weeks. Nothing elaborate, just a line at the end of the day noting whether you felt frazzled and what came before it. Most people in this range find two or three reliable conditions, usually sleep, back-to-back social plans, or a particular kind of pressure at work.

Once you know them, plan around those conditions rather than around your sensitivity in general. If Sunday lunch with your partner's family always follows a late Saturday, move one of them. If hard conversations go badly when they start after 10pm, agree to start them earlier.

Then say it out loud. A sentence like this helps more than either of you guessing: I am fine with busy weekends, except after a short night.

Check which part scored highest. If it is subtlety, you may be picking up more from people than you give yourself credit for, and that is worth factoring in on the tired days.

If you want to talk a pattern through before explaining it to someone else, Lovon is there for that.

The twelve items on this test are written by Lovon around the three-part structure described above. This is not the Highly Sensitive Person Scale, and it does not reproduce that scale or any other copyrighted instrument.

There are no clinical norms behind the bands. They are ranges for reading your own answers back, not percentiles against a population, and nothing here is a diagnosis. High sensitivity is a temperament trait, not a condition.

Feeling overwhelmed most of the time can also come from anxiety, depression or burnout. If that has lasted for weeks alongside poor sleep, constant worry or low mood, it is worth a conversation with a doctor.
