There are people we care about who do not care about us the same way. That is one of the most common human experiences, and it is still painful every time. Based on your answers, most of the signs of active interest are not there. This does not necessarily mean they dislike you, and it does not mean you are not worth being interested in. It usually means that for whatever combination of reasons — their own state, your chemistry, what they are looking for — they are not moving toward you. The urge in this moment is often to look for exceptions, the one text that seemed promising, the one moment that felt real. Those moments were probably real. They were not enough.

What to do next

Let yourself feel the disappointment. It is real. Then redirect your attention away from analyzing them. Spend a week or two noticing who in your life does show up for you, without you having to chase. Unrequited interest is not a moral failure on either side — but continuing to pour energy into someone who is not pouring it back is almost always costly.
