What this means
Nothing in what you described says this is a bad relationship. What it says is that the decision is further along than the groundwork. Several of the things that make sharing an address survivable are still open: what the money looks like, what happens if it ends, what the two of you even mean by this move. And in at least one place the timing is being set by something other than the two of you — a lease running out, a commute, a rent number that stopped making sense.
There is also the part you probably already noticed. When you imagined nothing else changing, you hesitated. That hesitation is not cold feet to be talked out of. It is the most useful piece of information on this page.
This is not a verdict and it is not a diagnosis. Plenty of couples move in earlier than they should have and are fine. But early moves tend to convert ordinary problems into expensive ones, because now every unresolved thing has a lease attached to it.
Not yet is a real answer
People treat this as a yes or no question, which is why it feels so heavy. It is almost always a when question. Not yet is not a rejection of him, it is a date with conditions on it, and conditions are much easier to talk about than feelings are.
The other thing worth saying: the pressure you feel to decide now is usually manufactured by a lease cycle, not by the relationship. Apartments come up in March. Feelings do not. If the only reason the deadline exists is a renewal date, a short sublet or three extra months at your current place buys you the thing you actually need, which is time to watch how you two handle a boring problem together.
What to do next
Name your version out loud, with a date and a short list. "I want to live with you. I want to do it in the spring, after we've sorted out money and what happens if it doesn't work." That sentence is not a rejection and most people receive it as the opposite: you are treating it as real.
Run a rehearsal before the real thing. Ten days in one apartment, both of you working normal weeks, no vacation energy. You will learn more about cohabitation from one ordinary Tuesday than from six good weekends.
Pick the single conversation you have been avoiding and have it this month. Money, kids, whose city, whether this is heading somewhere. Whichever one made your stomach drop when you read it is the one.
What this is not
This is not a prediction about the two of you and it cannot see the parts you did not put into twelve questions. It is a mirror, not a ruling. If part of what is unclear is what you actually feel versus what you want to feel, that is a separate question worth its own honest half hour, and the am I in love quiz is a reasonable place to start on it. Either way, waiting a season costs you very little compared to what an early lease can cost.
