What this means

None of the three areas this test looks at stands out in your answers. The people at home can disagree with you and bring you bad news. Your anger has not caused trouble with strangers or at work. And it is not turning on you afterwards as shame, sleepless nights or hurting yourself.

By the usual meaning of the phrase, that is not what anger issues look like. Anger becomes an issue when it starts costing something you care about: the ease of the people you live with, your standing at work, your health or your sense of yourself. On your answers, the bill is small.

That does not mean you never get angry. Anger is a normal feeling and a useful one. It tells you that something matters or that a line has been crossed. Feeling it, even strongly, is not the problem. What it does next is.

What this result cannot see

A self-test sees what you notice, and anger is one of the feelings people are least accurate about in themselves. The person on the receiving end often notices the cost first. If someone close to you has said your anger worries them, take that seriously even if your answers here look calm.

It also looks only at the past month. If the month was quiet, the next hard one may look different. Pressure, sleep loss, grief and money worries can all change how anger shows up within weeks.

And it scores what anger costs, not every form anger takes. If you rarely get angry because you swallow it, or it comes out as sarcasm and silence rather than rows, the multidimensional anger test looks at that side.

What to do next

Check with one person. Ask a partner, a close friend or a family member: "When I'm annoyed, what is it like to be around me?" Then listen without arguing your case. An honest answer from someone who knows you well is worth more than this result.

Notice what keeps your anger cheap. Most people with this result have a habit that does the work: saying what is wrong early, walking away before it climbs, sleeping on a reply. Knowing which one is yours makes it easier to use on a bad day.

If you want to think through something that is making you angry before you raise it, Lovon can help you plan the conversation.

The twelve statements on this test are written by Lovon around the three areas described above. This is not the State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory, the Clinical Anger Scale or any other published anger measure, and it does not reproduce their items.

"Anger issues" is an everyday phrase, not a clinical category. There are no clinical norms behind the results. They describe where your own answers point, not where you sit against a population, and nothing here is a diagnosis.

If anyone at home is afraid of you, or you have hurt a partner, a child or yourself, talk to a professional rather than relying on a self-test.
