What this means

All three areas are raised in your answers. Painful feelings, frustration and physical strain, and waiting without an answer all tend to push you toward action faster than you would like. That is a different picture from having one weak spot. When every kind of discomfort feels urgent, the problem is usually not any single trigger. It is how little room you have for discomfort of any kind right now.

The useful question at this level is whether this is a season or a baseline. Tolerance shrinks under load. Weeks of bad sleep, a period of grief, a job that never lets up, a relationship in trouble, an illness, money worries: any of these can narrow the window until ordinary things start to feel like too much. If your answers would have been very different a year ago, the score is probably telling you about the load, and the most important work is on the load.

If it has always been like this, that matters too, and it is not a character flaw. People who grew up where discomfort was unsafe, unpredictable or punished often learned early that the fastest exit was the safest one. That made sense then. It is costly now.

What it costs

When everything is urgent, a lot of energy goes into putting out fires: ending conversations early, getting rid of feelings fast, settling every open question at once. Relationships tend to feel tense from both sides. You feel constantly on edge, and the people around you feel they have to manage the conditions so that nothing tips you over.

What to do next

Start with the body, because it is the part of the load you can change fastest. Sleep, food and some movement widen the window more reliably than any single technique.

Pick one area, not three. Choose the one that costs you most this month and practice a single delay there: ten minutes before you send, leave or quit. A small win in one place makes the next one easier.

Use short, concrete skills in the hardest moments. A slow breath with a long out-breath, cold water on your face, or a grounding exercise can take the edge off enough to choose what happens next.

This is a reasonable point to involve someone else. Distress tolerance is a core skill area in dialectical behavior therapy, and a therapist can teach it in a structured way. If the way you get out of a feeling has started to include hurting yourself, call or text 988 in the US, or your local emergency number, now rather than later.

Lovon is there between those conversations, at any hour, as support alongside other help rather than instead of it.

The items on this test are written by Lovon around the construct described above. This is not the Distress Tolerance Scale, and it does not reproduce that instrument or any other published measure of distress tolerance.

There are no clinical norms behind the results. They are ways of reading your own answers back, not percentiles against a population, and nothing here is a diagnosis.

If getting out of a feeling has started to involve hurting yourself, call or text 988 in the US, or your local emergency number.
