What this means

The kind of impulsivity that stands out in your answers is the pull of the rush. You do risky things partly for the thrill, such as driving far too fast, taking dares or betting more than you meant to. Boredom is hard to sit with, and when it arrives you go looking for something exciting even when you know it could go badly. Quiet evenings rarely feel like enough.

This pattern is about what you are drawn toward, not only about speed. Some people need more stimulation than others to feel engaged, and for them boredom is a real discomfort that has to be fixed. Risk is a reliable fix. It sharpens attention and makes the moment vivid. The trouble is that the price of the fix is paid in odds, and odds catch up.

What it costs

The obvious costs are physical and financial: accidents, injuries, fines, money lost on bets. They are not evenly spread. Most risky moments pass without harm, which teaches you that the risk was smaller than it was, until the one time it is not.

There are quieter costs too. People who love you may spend a lot of energy worrying about you. Relationships can start to feel too ordinary, and work too slow, which makes it harder to stay with anything long enough for it to become satisfying.

One line worth drawing

There is a difference between enjoying excitement and not caring whether you get hurt. If risk-taking has started to feel like the only way to feel anything, or like a way of not caring what happens to you, talk to someone about it soon. In the US you can call or text 988, any hour. If betting has got out of control, a doctor or a gambling helpline can help you take the first step.

What to do next

Find safer sources of the same feeling. Intense exercise, competitive sport, climbing, learning something hard or anything with a real challenge can give the sharpness without the odds.

Set rules before the moment, not in it. Decide in advance what you will not do, such as never driving after drinking or never betting more than a set amount, and tell someone your rule. Rules made in calm hold better than decisions made in the rush.

Notice boredom early. When the restless feeling starts, name it and pick something from your list before you reach for something risky.

If you want to talk through what the rush gives you, Lovon is there at any hour, alongside other support, not instead of it.

From the wiki

The twelve statements on this test are written by Lovon around the three kinds of impulsivity described above. This is not the Barratt Impulsiveness Scale or any other published impulsivity measure, and it does not reproduce their items.

There are no clinical norms behind the results. They describe which kind stands out in your own answers, not where you sit against a population. Nothing here is a diagnosis, and this is not a screener for ADHD or for any impulse control disorder.

If impulsive behavior is causing serious harm to your money, relationships or safety, talk to a doctor or a mental health professional.
