What this means

Your answers sit high in at least two of the three groups, and often in all three. Feelings get pushed out of view, explained down to size, and still leak into action, sometimes within the same afternoon. That is a different picture from the other results, which each have one favorite exit. Here several exits are in use at once.

The most useful way to read this is not as a personality. It is usually a sign of load. Defenses scale with how much there is to defend against, and when all of them are running hard at the same time it tends to mean that something in your life right now is bigger than the ordinary ways of carrying it. A breakup, a family crisis, a job that is going wrong, money, a loss that has not been grieved, a relationship you are not sure is safe.

So the first question for this result is not how to change your defenses. It is what they are working this hard to keep out.

Why this matters more than any single defense

When defenses stack, each one covers for the others. You deny the feeling. When that slips, you explain it. When the explanation does not hold, it comes out at the dog, the partner, the stranger in the queue. From the inside this can feel like being fine, then reasonable, then suddenly not fine at all, with no clear moment in between. From the outside it can look unpredictable.

It is also tiring. Running every defense at once takes energy, which is why people with this profile often describe themselves as exhausted without being able to say from what.

What to do next

Do not try to drop the defenses all at once. They are holding something up. Lower the load wherever you can instead, even slightly, and the defenses tend to ease by themselves.

Then pick one person and tell them one true thing about what is going on, in plain words, with no explanation attached. One person, one sentence. That cuts through every exit at once, because it is the opposite of each of them: admitted, felt, and spoken rather than acted.

Write down, privately, what you think the defenses are protecting you from. The list is often shorter than the exhaustion suggests.

This is a reasonable point to talk to a therapist, not because something is wrong with you but because a heavy load is what that kind of help is for. If you have felt flat, hopeless or unable to function for more than a couple of weeks, talk to a doctor as well. Lovon is there in between, at any hour, as support alongside that help rather than instead of it.

From the wiki

The items on this test are written by Lovon around the idea of grouping defenses by what they do. This is not the Defense Style Questionnaire or any clinician-rated defense system, and it does not reproduce any published measure.

There are no clinical norms behind the results. They are a way of reading your own answers back, not percentiles against a population, and nothing here is a diagnosis.

If hard feelings have been sitting alongside a low, flat mood for weeks, or you are relying on drinking or anything else to get through, that is worth a conversation with a doctor.
