Defenses that bend, not lock
Want to understand yourself more deeply?
Your result is a starting point: talking it through with Lovon, your AI relationship coach, is where it gets specific.
What this means
Your answers sit low across all three groups. When something hard happens, the feeling mostly gets through. You notice it, you can name it to someone, and whatever defense switches on in the first minute tends to switch off again once you have had a chance to look at the thing.
That is what healthy defense looks like, and it is worth being exact about, because it is not the absence of defenses. Everyone has them, and they exist for a reason: a mind that took in every threat at full strength, all at once, would not get through a working day. The difference at this end of the scale is that your defenses behave like a door rather than a wall. They buy you time, and then they open.
The defenses that usually sit underneath a profile like yours are the ones placed at the mature end of the range. Suppression, which is deciding to set something aside until tonight and then actually coming back to it tonight. Anticipation, which is feeling some of the dread before the hard conversation so it does not ambush you during it. Humor that makes a situation bearable without making it disappear. None of these needs the facts to be bent. They only manage when the feeling arrives.
The catch with a low score
A self-report test of defenses has a built-in blind spot, and it is fair to name it. The defenses that work best at keeping a feeling out of view also keep it out of view when you answer twelve questions about it. Someone who leans hard on denial can score low here in complete good faith.
So run one check that does not depend on your own view. Think of the person who knows you best and ask what they would have answered for you on questions 3, 9 and 10: other people's moods, snapping at the wrong person, and going slow on things you agreed to. If their answers would be close to yours, the result is probably right. If you can already hear them laughing, hold it more loosely.
What to do next
Keep the habit that is doing the work, which is almost certainly the return: the moment you go back to the thing you set aside. Under stress that gap stretches, and a door that stays shut for a week starts to behave like a wall.
Notice which situation would push your answers up. For most people it is one specific relationship, often a parent or an ex, where an older set of defenses still runs on its own.
If you want to talk a hard feeling through before it hardens into a defense, Lovon is there for that.
